Congratulations to Ethan Griggs, our Spirit Award winner for the week. Ethan has been encouraging others to do the right thing in choir and other places. He is eager to do his work correctly. We are happy you are in our school, Ethan.

In an effort to let you know about the ways we try to keep your children safe here at school, I’ve posted a list below:

  • We consider that the building is in “lockdown” at all times. Mrs. Hoos knows who is in the building and why at all times. We take this very seriously which is why she asks who you are if she can’t see you on camera and why you must report to the office once she lets you in the building.
  • Each teacher has developed a plan for their classroom in case of an intruder. We have attended at least two training events where we learned what to consider in developing a plan. The school has a written emergency plan that the board revisited and approved last spring that covers the range of possibilities of things that could happen. We hold fire and tornado drills.
  • Teachers have had training on how to use fire extinguishers. These are inspected each August and are guaranteed to work properly. Each classroom has one and they are placed throughout the building. We are fire inspected yearly.
  • Teachers are CPR and First Aid certified (renewing this summer).
  • Staff has training in child abuse/neglect each year. We are trained on awareness of signs and are mandated reporters.
  • Staff has training and must pass a test each year about how to manage blood borne pathogens.
  • Security cameras for the hallways and playground are purchased and awaiting installation.
  • We have smoke detectors and smoke/carbon monoxide detectors in appropriate areas throughout the building.
  • Our window glass is tinted so that it is difficult to see in. The street level glass also has ballistic film which will greatly impede a bullet.

If you have any questions or suggestions for us concerning school safety, let me know.    God’s blessings and stay safe!
