January 16, 2018

Flue season is here! Our class has been very healthy so far. Please continue to encourage your child to get plenty of rest, eat good meals, and drink plenty of water. We will continue to wash our hands frequently at school. All of this will hopefully keep us healthy!

 

Reading

Good readers ask questions about a text to focus their reading, clarify meaning, and delve deeper into the text. We will continue asking ourselves questions before, during, and after reading to help our understanding.

Math

We will pay for items to a $ using dimes, work on a pictograph, compare length shorter to longer, and order objects by size.

Content

We will learn about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a famous Nobel Peace prize winner for leading nonviolent civil rights demonstrations.

Chapel offerings for the month of January will go to the Open Door in Sedalia. What a wonderful way to help our community!

 

Reading

Good readers ask questions about a text to focus their reading, clarify meaning, and delve deeper into the text. We will focus on asking ourselves questions before, during, and after reading to help our understanding.

Math

We will identify full, half containers and a quart. We will also cover a design in more than one way, count objects to 20, and pay for items using dimes. We will write numbers past 10.

We will learn how a thermometer works. Also, we will compare how we get ready for winter to how a bear gets ready.

We will begin Reading Logs and Word Lists this week. Reading Logs are due the following Monday and Word Lists on Friday.

December 11, 2017

Our Christmas program will be Tuesday, December 19th . Please have your child meet in our room at 5:45. The children should wear nice church clothes.

No lunch will be served on December 20th since we will be dismissing at 11:00 a.m.

Next week... No reading log, word list, or newsletter will be sent home. We will begin these again after the new year. Also, I am sending towels home to be laundered and they should be returned when we come back.

 

Reading

Good readers gain meaning by using their schema (prior knowledge) while reading and listening to stories. This week, we will become aware of text to self connections made while listening to those stories.

Math

We will pay for items to .50, match and compare numbers to sets, solve a problem by guessing then checking to see if we are correct, and weighting/ordering objects using nonstandard units.

Weather permitting...we will try and go outside as much as possible. Please send your child in a warm coat, hat/hood, and mittens/gloves.
