GRADES 3 & 4

January 16, 2018

Dear Parents and Students,

It's STILL All About Jesus”!

This week we celebrate with Emily, whose birthday is Thursday, January 18. God's blessings to you on your birthday and always, Emily!

Your child received their progress report for the mid-term of the 2nd trimester. Please look at it and sign on the line provided for parent signature. Return that portion to me by Wednesday please, so I know you have seen the report. Thank you.

The spelling list for this week is attached to this note. Fourth graders will learn the first eight words in cursive and will learn the first 2 challenge words this week. The other challenge words can be for bonus points.

Third graders will learn these words in cursive: blue, true, shoe , chew.

Share Time this week is for the 3rd graders.

There will be basketball practice on Tuesday and Thursday this week. The next game is Monday, January 22 at St. Peter's in Marshall.

Recorder classes have begun meeting for the 3rd graders on Tuesdays and the 4th graders on Thursdays. Remember to practice each night and keep track of your minutes on the log sheet. Remember to bring your recorder and book, plus your log sheet on your scheduled day.

BOOK REPORTS FOR THE SECOND TRIMESTER ARE DUE FEBRUARY 15. Students may read a book of their choice for this report. So start reading and pace yourself to finish the book in about a month.

THERE IS NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, JANUARY 15 in observance of Martin Luther King Day. There is also NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 26, due to professional development day for the teachers.

It was originally scheduled to not have school on Friday, January 19, but now that we DO have school, 4th graders will need to say Memory that day, instead of the next Monday. They will not recite on Friday, Jan 26 since there is no school that day. But they WILL recite on Monday, January29 instead.

There will be a PTL meeting this Thursday, January 18 at 6:00 p.m.

Our Chapel offerings for the months of January and February will go to Open Door, a local community service.

Through the School Store fund-raiser, our class was given some gift cards for our classroom. We were able to purchase some good quality compasses for 4th grade math, a new Judy Clock which has gears and aids the third graders in learning to tell time, plus a subscription to “National Geographic for Kids.” THANK YOU for participating in this and for all your support of our school!

The last week of January, we will again be taking an on-line mission trip presented by Lutheran Hour Ministries. This year we will visit the country of Cambodia. Students will receive a bank to collect money for this ministry. Please pray for the LHM as they work to spread the Gospel and help people in the country of Cambodia.

Choir will be going to sing at the Thompson Center on Monday, January 22. We will leave school at 12:15. Drivers are needed. I will send an email soon for volunteers.
